We have just had carpet installed which has resulted in lots of scratches on our brand new gloss paintwork.

I really really don't want to take up the carpet (I never find that protectors work very well), rub down, and recoat. Is there any way that the scratches can be polished out, or at least made less obvious?

    Hi,
Chances are,you new gloss was not totally dry, they are all touch dry in 24 hours but dont properly harden up for at least a week.
I would lightly rub down the scratched areas and re coat.

Its been there for a month, but its not been good drying weather lately.

Rubbing down and recoating is not an option, too much to do, and too close to the carpet.
