secret gutter?

Post by mortarboard » Tue Jul 21, 2009 7:27 pm

My reclaimed clay tile roof butts up to the existing house. I have been advised to use "soakers" and lead flashing for weather proofing on the pitched section. Could anyone tell me if I should put in a secret gutter underneath?

Many thanks

Secret Gutter? NO NEED

I would strip back all the tiles against the wall 2-3 courses in, and put breathable membrane in first. It's light, thin and flexible enough to go over the laths., Then soakers etc back over the lot., Make sure it flaps into the gutter.
We have done similar but as it was a hidden area (from the floor), I tried liquid rubber high build straight onto the wall and tiles. Worked through all of this bad weather recently, and is 1100% flexible to allow for movement.
Afte 2 months it looks like old lead anyway.
