Securing a Stud Wall to Metal House Joists

by Rockmonkey » Thu Jul 07, 2016 5:31 pm

Hi, looking at building a stud wall to create a new room, but despite several googles can't find an answer to my problem.
Our house is non-standard construction, it has metal joists. How do we fasten a stud wall to them? A bit loathe to start drilling into the joists in case it affects structure of the property... Is that likely to be a problem or are we being over cautious?
Are there any particular fastenings which are suitable for binding wood to metal?
This is our first major diy project, so answer on layman terms please!
Thanks!

use a 4mm hss drill bit, and a ordinary 5x70 wood screw, will self tap into the metal
