can anyone tell me how to set up my smoothing plane correctly .ijust cant seem to get it right.also the best way to sharpen the blade

See the post on wood chisel sharpening in carpentry and joinery. The plane is set up by loosening the blade, dropping it to the rerquired depth and retightening it.
