My shower is only 3 years old but I am the only one in the family able to turn the water on and off because the control has gone very stiff. Is there an easy way to lubricate it?

If its a thermostatic one it sounds like you might be needing a new cartridge or it may all just be scaled up and a good clean may sort it. Do you get temperature fluctuations as well?

If you do need to replace the decent makes guarantee their cartridges for 5 or 10 years so you should be able to get a replacement under warranty.
