Shower pump/ shower boiling!

by warleybarley » Thu May 01, 2008 6:18 pm

Hi - we have a pump installed in our airing cupboard and a shower in our ensuite that is used heavily by the whole family. It's been running fine for the last 3 years.

Today 3 showers were taken before 7am with the last shower running erratically (water in the cylinder running out).

On our return this evening, the shower pump's not working - changed the fuse and it started again, but only works when the shower is set to boiling hot - ie, no cold water seems to be running through the pump.

Have we broken the pump? Any ideas for a self-fix? Or do we need our plumber?

Thanks so much everyone.

Pat

Hi
sounds like you ran the tank dry with 3 showers and now have an air lock in the pump!! so you need a plumber!!
are you sure the fuse blew???
if it did get a sparky in fuses do not blow for no reason on a single item like that,
i am presuning you changed the fuse in a switched fuse spur to the pump, should be 3amp fuse make sure you replaced it with a 3amp fuse not a 13amp or you could be making a lethal mistake!!!!!
this seems to be above you get someone in water and electric dont mix!!!!!!

Thanks very much for your reply. We tried loosening the pipes in an effort to get rid of the air and it has worked...... Now as to the fuse.... Will need to wait until my brother's round at the weekend!

your tank should not be running dry even after three showers. the cold water cistern in the roof space should be replenishing the water at the same rate that it's taken. might want to get that looked at. run cold yes, but not dry.
