    Side Gate/Garage Doors

    Postby zeuxis » Thu Dec 27, 2007 11:28 am

    hi

i currently have one of these fibreglass cantilever car ports. Im looking at making up a frame with wooden garage doors at the front so it will look like a garage from the front but will be open one sided.

What i am hoping people can help with is the garage door frame i have found woodern ones that will work with double wooden style doors i like. The frame would be a 3 piece mortice and tennon style. One side i would be able to fix to the house but the other side currently just goes upto a fence. I was wondering what would be the best thing to mount it againest?

I was considering a 150 x 150mm fence post but was thinking it may rot away over time. Could anyone suggest anything better?? maybe a larger concrete pier?? only things i have found are concrete fence posts?? or a guess final resort would be building a brick pier??

    Thanks for the help

hi,have a look at a godfather (support post).fix your frame to this and from the front it will not be noticable, keep the frame clear of the ground to prevent rotting.
