Spur off Smoke Alarm

Post by Paul Baker » Tue Aug 28, 2007 6:10 pm

Hi
Can you take an electrical spur off a smoke alarm circuit, the spur would be used to power an TV signal booster input =230v - 50Hz 0.06A? Also what is the wiring colour code: brown = live, grey = ?, black = ?, copper = earth

Hi, No you can't spur off smoke alarms, the wiring you have seen there is Live, Neutral, common alarm signal to link all together & earth which should have green/yellow sleeving on the bare copper.
Not everyone using same colours either! Live Brown is standard but regs recommend Grey be sleeved Blue as Neutral, & Black is sleeved brown as interconnecting core but as I say no standard.
