Strength of pvcU roof - can I lay strong board to access roof?

by actoms » Sat Sep 06, 2014 11:03 am

i have a conservatory of lean-to style constructed of standard pvcu against the gable end of my house. It measures 5m in width (5 x 1m panels) and 2.7m in depth with a roof angle of 23 degrees from the horizontal.
A small section of wall above the conservatory is badly in need of re-pointing.

Is it safe to lay a strong board across the supporting beams and stand on it in order to access the area concerned? If so any tips on achieving a safe working platform would be appreciated..

Given the area involved I am reluctant to go to the expense of full scaffolding.

the problem is the plank will slide on pvc, there are special ladders designed for maintenance work on these roofs try your local hire centre

Thanks for that welsh brickie - I was unaware of such an item but have found it in a local hire shop catalogue of items so will use that.
