The Correct Way To Fit a Window.

Postby daveo138 » Tue May 19, 2009 2:13 pm

Having recently had some replacement UPVC windows fitted, I was wondering about the correct way to fit them.

The window sill is wider than the rest of the frame, so should the brickwork be relieved to accomodate the sill, or should the sill be cut to fit the brickwork.

The company that fitted the windows used both methods on different windows and I was wondering which method is correct.

Simply Build It

If you have a cill built into the brick wall eg a masonary cill, then it would be normal to fit windows without a projecting cill. Where there is a flat opening for the window then a window with a projecting cill should be fitted with the cill sticking outside the opening.
