The render is coming off my bay window

Postby Werdna » Fri Jan 10, 2014 6:40 pm

I have a 1930's semi with a bay on the front on both floors.
On the outside the section, above the ground floor window and below the first floor window, the render is falling off.
It looks like there is felt under it.
I was planning on removing it all so I can insulate it better and then board it and render it.
Can anyone give me advice on what materials to use please?
What insulation, board or felt etc and render mix?
Thank you

Simply Build It

you can use fiberglass insulation if you want, its up to you,
To seal it, use osb boarding 12mm thick, the cover it with roofing felt,
you will then need to use expanding metal and fix it to the bay to give the render something to grip to. The render needs to be a mix of sand lime and cement 5/1/1 with a waterproof addative, the first coat needs to be applied then scratched with a plasterers comb to give a key for the second coat
