Thermostat location

Sorry it this is an obvious question, where is the best place to put a programmable thermostat for a central heating system.

This will cut off the central heating for the whole house when the desired temperature is reached, so don't put anywhere warm, for example in a room with a fire, or above a radiator or near a window where sunlight could be directly on it. As - ok this room may be a nice temperature but eh kitchen or bedroom may still be cold.

If there is a part of the house which takes longer to heat, this is the best place as when this room reaches the desired temperature you know the rest of the house will be warm enough.

You normally site them in a passage or on a landing where there's no radiator.
