Tiles or toilet?? Which first??

Post by Mrs L » Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:03 pm

I am re-fitting the bathroom, and am happy with almost everything but just need to know is it best to install the basin and toilet and then tile around them (floor and wall) or is it best to tile the floor first then fit the toilet and basin on top?? If so how do you do this??

Also can you drill into tiles and if so is with masking tape the best way??

Thanks

Always fit pottery on top of tiles.

Good quality masonry drills will work fine without masking tape. Just go steady and don't use hammer.

tile first. you don't want to have to tile around the fixtures its a pain and unnecessary.

i use a special drill bit specifically designed for drilling through tiles and they work very well. only use it to get through the tile then change for another bit depending on the substrate beneath.

these drill bits are available at any diy store
