timber frame pricing and DIY or not?

by tiggy748 » Sat May 31, 2008 5:08 pm

Hi,

I am in the process of converting a barge. We intend to bolt an 50ft x 18ft x 8ft open plan single storey timber frame to the steel deck.

one section of this (18ft x 13ft) will be double height (16ft) and will act as a mezanine level

As we dont want "flat roof" issues we intend to very slightly curve the roof, sort of like a narrow/canal boat roof.

Essentialy it will be a square block.

I am trying to work out a budget for this. If I got in a company to sort this out, any idea how much? (just the insulated box with windows, no electric or plumbing)

or is it possibel to build something like this ourslefs, with a local carpenters help? It seems to me that it is just stud walls bolted together

or anyone fancy doing it for me? !!
