Timber frame vs Brick and Block

    Postby leeroy123 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 4:33 pm

    Hi
Im looking at whether to take forward a build on a substantial detached house on a village plot next to some listed cottages.

Im tempted by one of these timber frame companies which come in and build the structure bar felt battoning tiling and external joinery and brick or what ever external cladding, all in about 6 days! The finished products look fine in the brochures, but in reality are they cheap and cheerful constructions?

Ive also got a few concerns about the potential longevity of the construction in comparason to block inner wall construction.

    Any experiences or views?

secondly any experiences whether timber frame is accepable on solid ground floor construction rather than joists?

    cheers

Timber frame have a bad name in this country but the modern timber frames are normally fine - don't forget that in some countries (USA and the Scandanavian countries) timber frame is very very common.

As to whether or not they can be built off a solid ground floor then I can tell you that they can very easily be built off a solid concrete ground floor.
