Toilet backing up and leaking at the base

Post by Nancynrs » Fri Feb 20, 2009 1:40 pm

This morning while my son was in the shower the toilet began to leak at the base. The shower was draining slow as the water was coming out of the base of the toilet. The toilet would not flush.I heard him using the plunger with no results. I went in my bathroom to flush the toilet and the water came to the rim and eventually went down (not flushed) on its own. After about 30 minutes the toilets would flush. Now we are trying to figure out if it is the septic tank or what. Any ideas?

Nancynrs,
Either you have a blocked sewer pipe or the septic tank has not been emptied and the solids have reached the inlet pipe.
Either way its time for specialist help.

One has to assume that the shower waste is connected to the soil but thats probably quite irrelevent IMHO. You had a blockage in your soil pipe somewhere downstream of your bathroom which has now shifted itself.

Monitor the situation.

Cheers
