    UPVC DOOR LOCK

    HELP ! MY KITCHEN UPVC DOOR IS LOCKED AND THE KEY HAS BROKEN OFF IN THE LOCK, HOW DO I CHANGE THE BARREL ??????

    you could try pushing a fine sowing needle in the barrell from the other side .if you have a spare key you are ok then.if that doesnt work then the barrel needs drilling use a 6mm drill bit and drill were the key would go towards the bottom of the slot this will release the pins the barrel then needs turning to to release the lock.open the door remove bolt holding barrell then turn barrell to 10 to 2 position useually this should then come out

    Push the other half of the broken key into the lock and unlock it now you can remove the cylinder without messing about drilling it.

    BTW a lot of new cylinders will defeat drill bits due to the hardened pins being incorporated into them.

    If both of those fail if you remove the handle from the door take a hammer and bolster and a quick sharp blow to the top of the barrel will cause it to snap in the center. Then using a screw driver turn the mechanism arm to unlock the door then remove fixing screw and replace lock.
