Use of CFL light bulb inside IP44 fitting

by Reynardine » Fri Aug 10, 2007 10:38 am

I want to put an energy saving "CFL" light bulb inside an existing IP44 enclosed wall light.

Currently the wall light has a standard "incandescent" 40W light bulb.

The CFL bulb is about the same size as the normal bulb, runs at 7W and claims to last ten times as long.

Is it safe to put a CFL bulb in an enclosed wall light fitting or do these bulbs give out excess heat making this unsafe to do ?
