I have a selection on Mini Disk players but only one a Sony MZ-RH910 will use Hi format as well as MD format and connect to PC. We have over time had a few Mini Disk players that would not work and have been considered as faulty but just got a large JVC mini disk player complete with a selection of pre-recorded mini disks and found it would not play mini disks recorded on the Sony MZ-RH910 in MD format although it showed what song should be playing and the same was then found with a Sharp MD-MT20 no audio although it shows song names the disks all work in the Sony MZ-RH910 and it is not Hi-MD format but Net-MD format recorded with Sonic Stage in another Sony player they all work OK. A third player a Sony MZ-N710 will also play all mini disks. Is there something special about Sony mini disk players which stops any other make playing disks make with Sony mini disk recorders. The Sony MZ-N710 will also record from the PC and again disks made with that unit only seem to play on Sony players? The JVC player was got with whole idea of playing mini disks and if it is faulty then we have good cause to return it but if it’s a Sony thing then not really fair to return it as not really a fault as such.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with mini disk recorder / players please.
Eric

Found the problem there are 3 formats MDLP, NetMD and Hi-MD not two as I thought. Also there are 4 recording formats ATRAC, ATRAC3, ATRAC3plus and Linear PCM. In SonicStage in Tools, Options, Transfer one can select Net MD and transfer settings here there are three modes available Standard transfer mode, Specified bit rate transfer mode and SP transfer mode and a note that the latter is used for compatibility with non-MDLP MD devices and that it takes longer to transfer.

Easy when you know how!!!!
