Reinforced fixing for a picture rail

We've had a lot of picture rails put up all round the houseThe builder used "No More Nails" or similar,and it looks like he used plenty of it (you can see a very thin line of it top and bottom) They're mostly on top of plaster over brick or breeze block, but in one or two places it's plasterboard on frames.

But thinking it over, we're not sure we want to hang anything too heavy off them. Small pictures, fine, but we think we might be pushing our luck with larger pictures in glass frames so we want to reinforce the fixing in places.

From scratch, of course, we could have plugged and screwed the walls, but I don't see that working with the rails in place--the hole for the plug needing to be larger than the pilot hole in the rail.

So how could we go about it? Masonry nails straight through? Or is there some clever product I'm not aware of?

And mention of the plasterboard reminds me. There's a shower room built into a corner with plasterboard over a timber frame and tiled over that. How secure would that be as a base for a grab rail? My gut feeling is not very...

For masonry backed location drill a hole for a wall plug through the rail and into the wall, drive a wall plug through the rail and into the masonry and fit a screw to suit.
For plasterboard backed location use the same principle but use special plasterboard fixings .
For the grab rail use the fixing with spring loaded wings.
