Im at my wits and cannot understand what is happening and therefore resorting to the geniouses here:

I have completely renovated my house (terraced) and just before wre due to move in i have discovered a film of red dust on the front and living rooms and the kitchen in the cellar. The dust has even managed to find its way inside kitchen unit cupboards.

How it gets there i do not know. I have also been informed that my neighbour also haas the same problem but not as severe.

Does anyone know what it is and how it can be cured?

The dust looks like red brick dust but is a little fluffy.

Please help!!!

Kaks,

It is very likely that you and your neighbour have a problem with dry rot.

Simply, when the fungus associated with dry rot seeks new sources of moisture the fruiting bodies release spores which are visible as a red dust.

Dry rot can be erradicated and future growth eliminated with proper treatment and ventilation but it can also spread very quickly.

It is very important that you contact a timber preservation company as a matter of urgency.
