Taps switching themselves on

I have just had a new central heating system installed, however when i switch the sink tap on, put shower on or flush toilet, occasionally it will switch the bath tap on. I spoke to a plumber and he said I must have left the tap on as taps don't just switch on, but it has now happened three times and I know the tap has not been left on. Please, can you give me some idea of what the problem could be and any solutions?

When you say it switches the bath tap on does it come on at full power or just dribble? Could just be air pushing the water through the system, but this should be looked at by whoever fitted the central heating.

I did have a similar problem. I eventually put it down to changes in water pressure. If the tap was turned off (loosely) during low pressure a higher pressure would force water through - usually at night. Bit spooky to start with. Dont know if your problem is similar. Good luck sorting it out.

New boiler with the new CH system?

Don’t forget the CH is a different system to the water supplied to the taps, yes the hot comes from the boiler which also heats the CH

Hot or cold tap or both?

If the old system was tank fed from the loft (1/2 to 2 bar) and the new boiled is mains supply (1.5 up to 10 bar) to the taps, you may find that the old taps don’t like the new high pressure coming from the boiler Hot / cold from mains.

Try changing the washers first.

The taps were all new as is the plumbing for the bathroom, its just the hot tap that comes on, at a reasonable pace, not a dribble, not on full either, somewhere in the middle.
