Hi,

I gave my mate a hand ripping the old plaster off his wall in his 1920 (aprox) terrace house.

We started ripping the plaster off and created a lot of dust. We had dust masks on but just the basic type.

The plaster was imbedded on a black currugated lining that was nailed to the wall.

My question is,what possibilty could we have come into contact with any form of asbestos?
I know what some looks like but there are so many variations of it.

Did the old trades use it in the plastering process and would it be integrated into internal walls?

Does anyone know what that black corrugated 'rubbery type' sheeting was?

I am interested to find out. Has anyone encounted the same system and how did they satisfy their curiosity that it wasn't asbestos?

All information is greatly appreciated.

Hi sparkydelux,
sounds very much like it could be a asbestos insulation board they came in black and were corrugated. I'd have a look on the HSE website for more information. I think in Under A Guide to Managing Asbestos it will show different types of asbestos products
You can't be too careful with this stuff may need a specialist in, if you intend to remove it.

I have done some research into Domestic Asbestos Removal with my County Council their advice was to wear mask at all times keep the asbestos damp when removing it, try not to fragment the asbestos to much to keep particles to a minimum then wrap it in thick polythene seal it and take it to your nearest Household Recycling Plant that has facility for storing Asbestos, this can be checked on the website of your local councils waste management page.
As a further precaution i have PVA' my asbestos both sides to help keep it bonded as much as possible during the removal process.

All the council do is store it in a special locked container at the recycling plant then it is shipped to a special landfill site for disposal.

Hope this helps.
