anyone have a vague idea how much it costs to install a dormer window in an attic?..

Depends on the structure holding the rest of the roof up that you are maybe going to cut away.
Also depends if you already have a proper floor, stairs, fire escape to justify the dormer to the building regs people I would think.

7-10,000 for a full width dormer, everything else already in place?
or 30-60,000 for a full conversion depending on size & spec?
