I need to change the barrel in the lock but can't get the key fully into the barrel its almost there but stops about 1.5 mm short so can't turn the lock and remove the barrel (hence the need to change it) any ideas please

Try squirting some WD40 into the key chamber, sometimes its just muck inside that cloggs it up, you may not have to change the barrel too.
