My daughter has just had a condensing boiler fitted in her bedroom airing cupboard in her old terraced house. The plumber has left a gap as the flue goes through the airing cupboard ceiling in to the loft. He also removed the loft insulation from around the flue in the loft and it has created a considerable draught in the bedroom. The flue then exits the loft through the roof. Is it OK to fit the loft insulation right up to the flue and also to push it into the gap between the flue and the ceiling plasterboard?
Condensing flues are relatively cool, none the less he should have put a sealing plate or a fire stop plate. If for nothing else but to seal the hole.
I would get him back and tell him to complete the job.
He will prob. say that it is ok and just to push the insulation up against, tell him he has not finished the job and cannot leave it unsealed.
