Waterproofing Timber frames in Bathroom for Shower

by jarron » Sun May 07, 2017 4:51 pm

Hi all,

Recently just purchased a property that has timber frames throughout, the bathroom currently has a bath only, however we really need to get a shower in there. Happy for it to be with the bath and not a separate unit, but have concerns about waterproofing and looking for some advice.

Really don't want to tile over, so we feel like our options are:

Waterproofing varnish on the frames- has anyone used these before for this reason? I know of the ongoing work it will require to re apply etc.

Glass/ Acrylic sheeting so that you can still see the beam features but ensure that water won't directly hit the beams.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!
