What nails should be used for plasterboard?

A bit of help required here please.

I have a lathe and plaster ceiling in the garage and some of it has been removed around the edges for electric cables.
The ceiling needs repairing but don't want to take it down really.
So, would it be ok to just place new plasterboards over it and
secondly what kind of screws are needed.
Any help appreciated
