whirlpool freezer temp ticking

hi i have a whirlpool afg7060 with the digital temp, after i switched it on after a lay off of about a month or so (to stock it up for xmas) the digital display started ticking no matter what temp i selected, it disappears if i select the fast freeze button. has anybody got any ideas please
