will carpet make a difference?

I have just moved into my first house to discover the neighbours are from hell!!! They are continually shouting at each other and play music very loud. This noise travels all over the house including the childrens bedrooms. I have original wooden floorboards
thanks in the lounge and wonder what difference fitting a carpet with good underlay would make - any ideas???

The only answer is that you try it and see, however I suspect you will need to add soundproofing to your party wall - see other posts.
