wiring a ceiling light

Post by sandralday » Mon May 26, 2008 2:39 pm

Hi,

We are trying to connect a ceiling light that has two switches connected to it. The light only came with a six holed connector. We have bought a larger connector but are not sure in what order all the wires go. In the ceiling we have one green/yellow, 3 red and 3 black wires. The light itself has one blue, one green and one brown. Please can anyone help?

Hi, this is by far the most asked question of all time!
see projects page for drawings in colour under changing a light fitting.
You say you have 6 terms. which implies a standard ceiling rose which has 6 plus the flex 2.
if so then there will be one by the brown of flex this takes the switch black return which should be identified with red tape/sleeve,
the middle 3 are for the 3 reds to loop into, not connecting to your flex.
the remaining 2 take the 2 black neutrals next to the blue of flex.
If none of your blacks are marked red then you are in trouble as you should have noted the lonely one BEFORE disconnecting old rose!!!
If the info/drawings don't help then you will need proff. help,
