wiring in under cabinet lights

we want to have a double light switch so we can have either main light or under cabinet light working together or individually. However although we can get the main light to work we cannot get the under cabinet lights to' please help

Most light switches only have line connections to them. There is no neutral. Although often they will have a wire of a colour used for neutral. The neutral coloured wire should be sleeved to show it is line but often this is missed. Could you be trying to power the extra lamp from Line feed to switch and Line feed to lamp instead of Line feed and Neutral?
