wood varnish and decorators caulk

I am trying to paint the wood work in my house and have decorators caulk on the gaps on the sides as it is very old and nothing is sqaure [incl beams]. varnish and stain will not paint on the caulk or spilt paint, plaster from previous owners. is ther somthing i can do to make it stick. thanks for your help.

Hey buddy your problem doesn't seems out to be very serious. Well better ve some words with experts they 'll definitely sort it out and in mean time i'll also try.
