Wooden floors - ripping up the carpet!

Post by Clairevf » Tue Jun 12, 2007 7:47 pm

Hi,

We live in a very old house where most of the rooms have the original hardwood floorboards exposed. There is one room which is carpeted (the previous owner had children and wanted a soft floor) but we would like rip up the carpet and have the exposed floor on display. My question is, where should I start? I have pulled up some of the carpet and the floorboards underneath appear to be smooth and in good condition like the floors in the rest of the house. How should I go about treating the wood underneath so it is suitable for foot traffic? We plan to have the floorboards white as the final result. Sorry but I would be taking a guess as to the type of timber used of the floorboards but if I could get a heads up on where to start it'd be much appreciated! Thanks. :D
