Summary: All the information and advice you will need when travelling or planning a holiday in the Balearic Islands.
Located off the coast of Eastern Spain in the Mediterranean Sea, the Balearic Islands have long been popular with the British holiday maker.
The group consists of Menorca, Mallorca (sometimes known as Majorca), Ibiza and Formentera. Although all the islands are famous for the wonderful beaches and landscapes, each has an identity of it’s own.
Mallorca is the largest of the islands in the archipelago and as a result offers more to see and do. The capital, Palma, is a mix of modern architecture overlooking the historic buildings of the old city. There are many smaller beaches and coves to be found away from the main resort areas of Magaluf and Palma Nova. Head inland away from the main tourist areas and you will find beautiful villages, mountains and valleys to enjoy in relative peace and quiet.
Menorca, the second largest island, is much preferred by visitors seeking a quieter break, especially those looking for good food, historical sites and perhaps less in the way of nightlife. The capital Mahon is home to the churches of Santa Maria and San Francisco, both popular tourist attractions. The Balearic version of Stonehenge can be found on Menorca, at Talah, and is always worth a look.
Ibiza has long been recognized as the dance and party capital of Spain, but away from the frenetic nightlife of the clubs and pubs are pine forests and excellent beaches.
Formentera is the smallest and most southerly of the islands, and is a wonderful place for a truly relaxing break, offering peace and tranquility against a backdrop of beautiful sandy beaches and pine forests.
