Summary: The importance of setting a holiday budget
A holiday at home or even abroad can cost less than you may think, but having realistic expectations of what your budget will stretch to is most important. There’s no point splashing out on an all inclusive 5* hotel and then spend the next few months worrying about how you are going to pay for it! You will certainly not enjoy your holiday either!
Setting a budget at the outset is probably the most important part of your holiday planning process, as this will be the deciding factor in where you can realistically go.
The same process will apply whether you are holidaying at home or abroad. Obviously, foreign holidays are more likely to have the benefit of good weather, something that cannot be guaranteed in the UK, even during the summer months. If
sunshine is your top priority, going abroad may be the only option you will consider. Have a look at the Home or Away page for some top money saving tips.
If it is not too late in the year, plan ahead and start putting aside some funds for your holiday. Look out for family discounted packages, but take care to read the small print! Ages restrictions for children can vary widely, adding unexpected costs to the final total. Look for holiday resorts with lots of facilities – but again be sure that these are included in the overall price. Some activities may have additional fees, or restricted use.
