i have a Ford Ka without powered steering. Every time i turn a corner my steering wheel "Clunks" and the steering becomes harder, they it goes alright again , does anyone know what this is?

This sounds like it needs quick attention, as it could be a slack nut holding a track-rod-end fitting in place. These items do need to be renewed for MoT's frequently, but usually for wear. If the securing nut is slack, it could be more expensive.
There are various other possibilities, at the top or bottom of a suspension strut, or just the universial joint in the steering column. Even lack of servicing of the front brake calipers can cause noise and drag.
