1.6 zetec sump removal - HELP!

Hi, got a crack in the sump so bought new sump/gasket/oil/filter.
having difficulty getting old sump off. i have removed all fixing bolts and it came loosa after a bash from hand (as haynes manual.) however it only drops about half an inch then gets stuck on something. i cant see what its hitting or why it wont slide out, does anyone know how to get it off and new one on without taking engine out???

help, its driving me mad!
