Condensation
The conversion of moisture in the air to water, as in the formation of water droplets on the outside of cold pipes.

Condenser
The heat exchanger in a refrigeration system that removes heat from the high pressure refrigerant gas and transforms it into a cool liquid.

Condensing unit
In a refrigeration system, the mechanism that pumps vaporized refrigerant from the evaporator, compresses and liquifies it, and returns it to the refrigerant control. Includes the compressor, condenser, condenser fan motor, and controls.

Conditions of the contract
A document detailing the rights, responsibilities, and relationships of the parties to the contract for construction.

Conduction
See thermal conduction.

Conductive flooring
Flooring designed to prevent electrostatic buildup and sparking. Typical uses include floors in computer areas and hospital operating rooms.

Conductive mortar
A tile mortar to which electric-conductive material has been added.

Conductive rubber
An abrasion-resistant, highly conductive rubber with great anti- static properties. Used in switches, keypads, and telecommunications assemblies.

Conductor
(1) Any substance that can serve as a medium for transmitting light, heat, or sound. (2) In electricity, a wire or cable that can carry an electric current. (3) A pipe that leads rainwater to a drain.

Conduit (cable conduit)
(1) A pipe, tube, or channel used to direct the flow of a fluid. (2) A pipe or tube used to enclose electric wires to protect them from damage.

Confidentiality agreement
A legal document that allows the release of trade secret information to physicians and others who may need this information to protect workers from danger or to treat an exposed worker.

Conglomerate
A rock deposit consisting of stones of varying sizes naturally cemented together as a natural concretion.

Conifer
Any of an order of mostly evergreen trees and shrubs, including those with true cones, such as pines, and those with arillate fruit, such as yews.

Connector
A device that will hold two or more electrical wires in close contact and can be quickly and easily removed.

Consequential damages
Losses that do not flow directly from the actions of the defendant, but rather are the result of special or remote circumstances relating to those actions.

Conservation
In the context of historic buildings, efforts to bring old building finishes and features to a condition as close as possible to their original state when new. Conservation also involves planning and carrying out maintenance practices that will ensure the best appearance and condition of the building and its features for as long as possible.

Consideration
The price, motive, or benefit that induces parties to form a contract. A contract is not legally enforceable without consideration.

Consistency
A reference to the relative mobility or plasticity of freshly mixed concrete or mortar, as measured by a slump test for concrete, and by a flow test for mortar and grout.

Console
(1) A control station with switches and gauges to govern the operation of mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical equipment. (2) An ornamental bracket-like member used to support a cornice.

Consolidation
Compaction of freshly poured concrete by tamping, rodding, or vibrating to eliminate voids and to ensure total envelopment of aggregate and reinforcement.
