Cavity fill
Material placed in the hollow of a wall, ceiling, or floor to provide insulation or sound deadening.
Cavity flashing
The continuous waterproof barrier that covers the longitudinal opening in a cavity wall.
Cavity tie
See wall tie.
Cavity wall
An exterior masonry wall in which the inner and outer skins are separated by an air space, but tied together with wire or metal stays.

Cedar
A softwood with reddish heartwood and white sapwood noted for decay resistance and used for shingles, shakes, posts, and gutters.
Ceiling
(1) The overhead inside lining or finish of a room or area. (2) Any overhanging surface viewed from below.
Ceiling area lighting
A lighting system in which the entire ceiling functions as a single large luminaire. This lighting includes luminous and louvered ceilings.
Ceiling cornice
The moulding installed at the intersection of the wall and ceiling planes.
Ceiling diffuser
Any air diffuser, located in a ceiling, through which warm or cold air is blown into an enclosure. The diffuser is designed to distribute the conditioned air over a given area.
Ceiling fitting
A fitting, usually electrical, that is attached to a ceiling, such as the attaching part of a ceiling light fixture.
Ceiling flange
An escutcheon or cover placed around holes in ceilings through which pipes pass or sprinkler heads protrude.
Ceiling outlet
In a ceiling, a metal or plastic junction box that supports a light fixture and encloses the connecting fixture wires.
Ceiling plenum
In air conditioning systems, the air space between a hung ceiling and the underside of the floor or roof above. Acts as a return to the air handling unit.
Ceiling sound transmission
The transmission of sound between adjacent rooms through the ceiling plenum above.
Ceiling suspension system
A gridwork of metal rails and hangers erected for the support of a suspended ceiling and ceiling-mounted items, e.g., air diffusers, lights, fire detectors, etc.
Ceiling switch
A cord or chain pull switch.
Cellar
A room or set of rooms below or predominantly below grade, usually under a building.
Cellular construction
Construction with concrete components that have been cast with voids for sound and thermal insulation and for decreased weight.
Cellular floor
A flooring system that incorporates prefabricated raceways for telecommunications and electrical wiring.
