Dormer
A projection through the slope of a roof for a vertical window.
Dormer window
A window on the front vertical face of a dormer.
Dormitory
A residential building that includes sleeping facilities. Most commonly found at an educational institution.
Double angle
A structural member formed by using two L-shaped angle irons back to back.
Double brick

Double door
Two single doors or leaves hung in the same door frame.
Double glazing
Window with two panes of glass with an air space between for increased thermal and sound insulation.
Double jack rafter
A rafter that joins the roof hip to the valley.
Double layer
Two layers of plasterboard installed over each other to improve fire resistance
Double nailing
A method of applying drywall using two nails where one nail would ordinarily be used.
Double partition
A partition constructed with two rows of studs to form a pocket door or a cavity for soundproofing.
Double rafter
A pair of roof rafters installed alongside each other.
Double return stair
A stair with one flight to a landing, separating into two flights to the next floor.
Double T-beam
A precast concrete member composed of two beams with a flat slab cast monolithically across and projecting beyond the top of the two beams.
Double-acting door (swinging door)
A door with double-acting hinges so that it can swing both ways.
Double-acting frame
A door frame without stops, which allows a double-acting door to swing both ways.
Double-acting hinge
A door hinge that allows the door to swing both ways.
Double-cut file
A file with two sets of diagonal cutting ridges crossing each other on the face of the file.
Double-cut saw
A saw with teeth which cut both on the push and the pull stroke.
Double-fronted lot
A lot bounded by a street on both the front and the back.
