Downpipe

Draft
(1) The drawing power of air and gases through a chimney flue. (2) A note similar to a cheque except that banks will not cash it without certain preliminary processing. A draft takes 10 to 14 days to \"clear,\" or be guaranteed by the bank. During this period, the bank sends the draft back to the insurance company for validation. (3) A smooth strip worked on a stone surface to be used as a guide for finishing the surface.

Draft bead
(1) A weatherstrip used around a door or window. (2) A strip of timber or metal which covers the joint where a sash or casement meets a stile. (3) Any timber or metal strip used to cover a crack in an exterior wall of a building.
Draft curtain (curtain board)
A noncombustible curtain surrounding a high-hazard area to contain and direct flame, smoke, and fumes.
Drafting machine
A device attached to a drafting table that combines the functions of a T-square, triangle, scale, and protractor.
Drafting pen
One of a variety of drawing instruments used for drafting.
Dragline
A bucket attachment for a crane that digs by drawing the bucket towards itself using a cable. The attachment is most commonly used in soft, wet materials that must be excavated at some distance from the crane. This device is used extensively in marsh or marine work.
Drain
A pipe, ditch, or trench designed to carry away waste water.
Drain cock
A cock or spigot at the lowest point of a water system where the system can be drained.
Drainage
(1) Waste water. (2) The process by which waste water is carried away.
Drainage fill
(1) Granular material placed beneath a concrete floor slab to inhibit the capillary rise of moisture. (2) Lightweight concrete that is placed on a floor or roof to promote drainage.
Drainage piping
The piping comprising the plumbing of a drainage system.
Drainage system
All the components that convey the sewage and other waste water to a point of disposal.
