Duration
In CPM (Critical Path Method) scheduling, the estimated time to complete an activity.
Dust collector
Any device used to collect the dust produced by a machine or tool, such as those required at all rock-drilling operations and those used with bench saws.
Dusting
The development of dust on the surface of a concrete floor. Dusting can result from troweling too soon, too much water in the mix, improper mix design, and other reasons.
Dutch gable roof
A style of roof framing similar to that in a hip roof, but with a small gable at the top.
Dwarf wall
Any wall less than one story in height, such as a subwall for a crawl space or a wall that supports sleepers for the floor above.
Dwelling
Any building designed for permanent living accommodations for one or more persons.
Dwelling unit
A room or rooms designed for permanent living accommodations for one or more persons.

Refers to information that will be updated and displayed automatically on a Building Automation System CRT or display panel when the status of the building equipment changes.

The analysis of stresses in a framing system under dynamic loading conditions.
Dynamic load
A load on a structural system that is not constant, such as a moving live load or wind load.
Dynamic loading
Loading imposed by a piece of machinery through vibration, in addition to its dead load.
Dynamic penetration test
A test to determine the bearing capacity of soil where a testing device is delivered a series of blows to penetrate the soil.
Dynamic resistance
The resistance of a pile to blows from a pile hammer, expressed in blows per unit of penetration.
