Emulsion
(1) A mixture of two liquids that are insoluble in one another and in which globules of one are suspended in the other (such as oil globules in water). (2) The mixture of solid particles and the liquid in which they are suspended but insoluble, as in a mixture of uniformly dispersed bitumen particles in water, in which the cementing action required in roofing and waterproofing would occur as the water evaporates.

End anchorage
A mechanism designed to transmit prestressing force to the reinforced concrete of a posttensioned member.

End bearing pile
A pile supported mainly by point resistance. The pile's point (toe) rests on or is embedded in a posttensioned member.

End butt joint (end joint)
(1) A joint formed when boards are connected square end to square end. (2) A joint between two veneers, formed perpendicular to the grain. (3) In masonry, a joint in which mortar connects the butt ends of two bricks.

End grain
The grain that is exposed when a piece of wood is cut perpendicular to the grain.

End joint
See end butt joint

End rafter
A common rafter positioned in line with the ridge of the roof.
