Entrapped air
Voids in concrete that are of at least one millimeter in diameter, and which are the result of air other than entrained air.

Envelope
(1) A term used to denote the extreme outside surface and dimensions of a building. (2) An assembly of planes representing the limits of an area that may house a structure, i.e., a zoning envelope.

Environmental design
The adaptation of a building to its surroundings and the consequences of its incorporation into the setting.

Environmental impact statement
A detailed analysis of the probable significant environmental effects of proposed construction that may have potentially significant consequences on the environment.

Environmental monitoring 
A process of measuring physical and/or chemical properties of an environmental medium, such as air, soil or water.

Environmental remediation
The process of treatment, containment, or removal of hazardous or toxic wastes to protect human health and the environment.

EPDM 
ethylene propylene diene monomer

EPDM roofing
A single-ply roofing material manufactured of an elastomeric polymer synthesized from ethylene, propylene and a small amount of diene monomer. Because of its versatility in application methods, EPDM roofing may be used for any roof shape, slope, height, and climatic exposure.

Epoxy
Any of several synthetic, usually thermosetting, resins that provide superior adhesive power and hard, tough, chemical- and corrosion-resistant coatings.

Epoxy resin
A material containing an average of more than one epoxy group per molecule used in the preparation of special coatings or adhesives for concrete and as binders in epoxy resin mortars and concrete.

EPS

Equalizer
Any device that compensates for an undesired characteristic of a system or component.

Equipment
All the machinery, tools, and apparatus necessary for the proper construction and acceptable completion of a project.

Equipment room
An area or room used to store contaminated clothing and equipment. Part of the worker decontamination enclosure system.

Equitable adjustment
An adjustment to the contract price or time resulting from a change, differing site condition, or the like, which compensates the contractor for reasonable costs, plus overhead and profit.

Equity 
The residual value of a business or property, often calculated by subtracting the amount of outstanding liens or mortgages from the total value of the business or property.

Erection
The positioning and/or installation of structural components or preassembled structural members of a building, often with the assistance of powered equipment such as a hoist or crane.

Erection bracing
Temporary bracing used to hold framework in a safe condition during construction until enough permanent construction has been put in place to provide complete stability.

Ergonomics
The interaction between people and work, particularly the design of machines, chairs, tables, etc., to suit the body and to permit work with minimum fatigue.
