Gutter
(1) A shallow channel of metal or PVC positioned just below and following along the eaves of a building for the purpose of collecting and diverting water from a roof. (2) In electrical wiring, the rectangular space allowed around the interior of an electrical panel for the installation of feeder and branch wiring conductors.
Gutter spikes
Long (150mm to 300mm) galvanized steel nails used to hang gutters.
Gutter bracket
A bent metal strip used for securing or supporting a metal gutter.
Guy
A cable or rope anchored in the ground at one end and supporting or stabilizing an object at the other end.
Guy derrick
A derrick with a guyed mast and hinged boom at its base. This type of derrick is used for erecting and hoisting materials
Gyprock(r)
A trade name for plasterboard.
Gypsum
A naturally occurring, soft, whitish mineral (hydrous calcium sulfate) which, after processing, is used as a retarding agent in Portland cement and as the primary ingredient in plaster, gypsum board, and related products.
Gypsum board
A panel whose gypsum core is paperfaced on each side, and which is used to cover walls and ceilings while providing a smooth surface that is easy to finish. Used as a substitute for plaster.
Gypsum block
A lightweight, hollow or solid masonry unit made from gypsum and used to construct nonbearing partitions.
Gypsum cement
(1) A white cementitious material manufactured from gypsum which has been burned at a high temperature and ground to a fine powder. Alum is added to accelerate the set. The resulting plaster is hard and strong and accepts and maintains a high polish, hence it is used as finishing plaster. (2) Anhydrous calcined gypsum.
Gypsum panel
See gypsum board.
Gypsum plaster
A plaster made from ground calcined gypsum. The set and workability of gypsum plaster are controlled by various additives. When mixed with aggregate and water, the resulting mixture is used for base-coat plaster.
Gypsum wallboard
