Real estate
Property in the form of land and all improvements such as buildings and paving.

Real property (real estate)
Land and anything growing on the land, or constructed on it, such as buildings, stone walls, fences, driveways, garages, underground swimming pools, trees, shrubs, and gardens. Real property also includes fixtures, or items that are permanently affixed to real property, such as light fixtures, oil burners, fuse boxes, and plumbing. Real property does not include things that are grown on the land for the purpose of being sold, such as crops, or trees from a tree farm. Such products that are to be severed from real property and sold are treated as goods.

Realignment
A change in the horizontal layout of a highway, may also affect vertical alignment.

Ream
To enlarge or smooth a hole using a reamer.

Reamer
A bit with sharp, spiral, fluted, cutting edges along the shaft which may be slightly tapered. Used to enlarge drilled holes or remove burrs from the inside of pipe.

Reasonable cost
A cost that would be incurred by an ordinarily prudent person in the conduct of competitive business.

Rebar
reinforcing bar

Rebate
Discount, deduction, or refund of money.

Recessed fixture
A lamp fixture the bottom edge of which is flush with the finish surface.

Recessed head
A specially constructed mechanical fastener that is designed to fit flush into the surface.

Recharging
(1) The replenishment of ground water through direct injection or infiltration from trenches outside the area. (2) The replenishment of electric energy in a storage battery.

Reciprocating engine
A steam or internal-combustion engine with cylinders and pistons as opposed to a turbine.

Reciprocating saw
A saw operated in a back and forth or up and down motion extending from an engine or other power source, e.g., a saber saw.

Recirculated air
Return air that is reconditioned and distributed once again, as opposed to makeup air.

Reconstruction
The process of depicting (by means of new construction) the form, features and detailing of a non-surviving site, landscape, structure or object for the purpose of replicating its appearance at a specific period of time, and in its historic location.

Rectifier
An electrical device that converts alternating current(AC) to direct current (DC).

Recycled concrete
Hardened concrete that is crushed to be used as aggregate.

Recycled timber
Reused wood that has previously been worked.

Redress
(1) Financial compensation for a loss caused by the actions of another. (2) To set right, remedy, or rectify.

Reduced flush toilet
Any toilet designed to use 6 litres of water or less per flush.
