Sarking
A thin board employed in sheathing applications, as under the tiles or slates of a roof.
Sash counterweight

Sash (window sash)
The framework of a window that holds the glass.
Sash and frame
A preassembled unit consisting of a cased frame and a double-hung window.
Sash balance
A spring-loaded device, usually a spring balance or tape balance, used as a counterbalance for a sash in a double-hung window. A sash balance replaces sash weights, cords, and pulleys.
Sash chain
A metal chain used in place of a sash cord to connect a vertically hung sash with its counterweight.
Sash cord
A rope connecting a sash with its counterweight in a double-hung window.
Sash fastener
Any fastening device that holds two window sashes together to prevent their opening or rattling. A sash fastener is usually attached to the meeting rails of a double-hung window.
Sash fillister
(1) A rabbet cut in a glazing bar to receive the glass and glazing compound. (2) A special plane for cutting such rabbets.
Sash hardware
All accessories used to balance a vertically hung sash, including chains or cords, weights, and pulleys.
Sash holder

Sash lift
A handle on the bottom rail of a sash for raising and lowering the sash.
Sash lift and hook
A sash lift having a locking lever that holds the window fixed by contact with a strike in the frame. Raising the sash automatically releases the strike.
Sash lock
A sash fastener that is controlled by a key. See also sash fastener.
Sash pull
A plate, with a recess for fingers, set in a sash rail, or a handle attached to a rail to use in raising or lowering a window.
Sash pulley
A pulley mortised into the side of the frame of a double-hung window. The sash chord or chain passes over the pulley to the sash weight.
Sash stop (window stop)
A small strip fastened to a cased frame to hold a sash of a double-hung window in place.
Sash weight
A weight, usually cast iron, used to balance a vertically hung window.
Sash window
Any window, but usually a double-hung window, having a vertically or horizontally sliding sash.
Satin sheen
Descriptive of a paint film with a subdued gloss resembling satin.
