Saturant
(1) A substance, usually a diluted encapsulant, added to water to increase the amount of solute that can be dissolved at a certain temperature. A wetting agent used to improve penetration. (2) A bituminous material with a low softening point, used for impregnating felt in asphalt-prepared roofing.
Saturated air
Air that contains the maximum amount of water vapor it can hold at its temperature and pressure.
Sauna
A room in which a person bathes in steam produced when water is sprayed or poured over heated rocks or another heated surface.
Saw
(1) To cut by means of a hand or powered tool having a thin, flat metal blade, band, or stiff plate with cutting teeth along the edge. (2) A toothed steel device used to cut construction materials.
Saw bench
A bench on which a circular saw is mounted.
Saw cut (control joint)
A cut made in hardened concrete by diamond or silicone-carbide blades or discs.
Saw set
(1) The angle at which the teeth of a saw are set. (2) A tool used to set the teeth of a saw at a desired angle.
Saw table
The table or platform of a power saw.
Saw-tooth roof (sawtooth roof)
A roof with a profile similar to the teeth in a saw, composed of a series of single-pitch roofs, whose shorter or vertical side has windows for light and air. This roof shape is found primarily on industrial buildings.
