Screen-door latch
A light locking or latching device for use on screen doors and operated by a knob, a lever handle, or a handle and push button.
Screenings
That portion of granular material that is retained on a sieve.
Screw
A fastener with an external thread.
Screw dowel
A dowel pin with a straight or tapered thread.
Screw clamp
A woodworking tool consisting of a pair of opposing jaws that can hold pieces of wood and are adjusted by two screws.
Screw eye
A screw with a loop or eye for its head.
Screw jack

Screwdriver
A hand tool with the shanks tip shaped to fit the recess in the head of a screw; used to drive or remove the screw.
Screwed joint
A pipe joint consisting of threaded male and female parts joined together.
Screwnail

Scribe
To mark and cut the edge of a member for an irregular cut that will allow it to fit a similarly irregular space.
Scriber
A pointed tool used to mark guide lines on wood, metal, and plastic.
Scrim
A coarse, meshed material, such as wire, cloth, or fibreglass, that spans and reinforces a joint over which plaster will be applied.
Scroll saw
A saw');">handsaw consisting of a thin blade in a deep U-shaped frame and a handle. A scroll saw is used for cutting thin boards, veneers or plates, and is especially good for cutting curves.
Scroll moulding
An ornamental moulding, semicircle in cross section, with a slight overhang on the rounded surface that faces outward.
Scrub sink
A plumbing fixture equipped to enable medical personnel to scrub their hands prior to a surgical procedure. The hot and cold water supply is activated by a knee-action mixing valve or by wrist or foot control.
Scupper
Any opening in a wall, parapet, bridge curb, or slab that provides an outlet through which excess water can drain.
Scotch
A tool used by bricklayers to cut, trim, and dress masonry units.
Scotching
Dressing stone with a special hammer whose head contains several steel points.
Seal
A legal term used to describe the signature or other representation of an individual agreeing to the terms and conditons of an agreement or contract.
